Norwegian Wood, is the one song on One Night At Chris’, that did not appear on another recording of ours. We have been doing this version of the song, based on an arrangement by Herbie Hancock, and so generously brought to us by the great bassist Rob Swanson, for some time now, and so feel a special connection to the song. It was a good rendition that night, featuring great work by Kirk Reese on piano and Tony Marino on bass, and we were happy to include it on the album.
Feel free to read the description on the main page describing this fabulous, lucky night of music featuring this great band playing their hearts out and with so much ability and expertise to make this recording possible. Featuring Dave Wilson - Tenor and Soprano Saxophones; Kirk Reese – Piano (East Coast Legend); Tony Marino - Acoustic Bass (From the Dave Liebman Group); Dan Monaghan – Drums (Legendary Philadelphia drummer). From Bill Milkowski. “The crackling intensity of One Night at Chris’ is a testament to what can happen on the bandstand on any given night. And this was a particularly good night indeed.” The recording is a document of one evening of music recorded live, no overdubs, no second takes and with all the nuances, surprises and magic known as Jazz. Yes, Indeed! It was a good night of live music, where everyone, my friends and I rose to the occasion.
lyrics
I once had a girl
Or should I say she once had me
She showed me her room
Isn't it good Norwegian wood?
She asked me to stay
And she told me to sit anywhere
So I looked around
And I noticed there wasn't a chair
I sat on a rug biding my time
Drinking her wine
We talked until two and then she said
"It's time for bed"
She told me she worked
In the morning and started to laugh
I told her I didn't
And crawled off to sleep in the bath
And when I awoke I was alone
This bird had flown
So I lit a fire
Isn't it good Norwegian wood?
