I was aiming for a lyrical, romantic type of ballad feel here, something I could express myself on. A little sappy? Maybe not. Can’t say I was totally happy with the way it turned out, either the chord progression or the melody; did not quite get there. You be the judge, also my soprano was breaking down at this point (towards the end of) in the session, and I actually had to overdub parts of the melody. I blew soprano on this and on purpose did not try to overplay it, play a lot of notes. Guys did do a real sensitive take on it; fantastic! One thing I will say about this record is that like true giants of the music, and generous at that, there was no overplaying by the guys-Phil, Tony, and Adam; they met me halfway, bought in to what I was trying to do, so that it was a cohesive effort where we were on the same page. Pretty darn cool!
