This tune was patterned after the great pianist Bill Evan’s Gloria’s Step, a tune I had been playing quite a bit at the time (but not since, which is not uncommon). It had an interesting, highly creative chord changes, I essentially composed a variation on it with creating my own melody line. Bill Evans composed often with minor chords, and progressions that moved in interesting almost random motion, suggesting, hinting at a resolution but then quickly moving away. Really a darker, moody, yet emotive quality, tinged with a certain sad quality, like the man himself perhaps. Check out Time Remembered (covered on our My Time recording on Dreambox Media). Really, it came out as a straight-ahead medium swinger, feel wise, and it was fun to write an interesting melody, slightly Monkish, and a gas to solo over. Can’t say it really stood out or even stuck but it was fun to write and then do. Things like this should be revisited. I might just do that.
